At the start of 2015 Team Newbrook proudly helped to kick start Cameron Hutchinson's fundraising campaign #CameronsCause
Cameron Hutchinson was a 23-year-old young local lad who we were introduced too through a fellow Newbrooker and a friend of his family.
He had a mole removed from his back, and he was then asked to go for a MRI scan. It was then that they sadly found that he had skin cancer and this has spread meaning the dreadful illness was terminal.
Despite his illness Cameron created a Just giving page in aid of Macmillan cancer support. His original target was to be £3k which is where our first involvement was.
We had not long opened for business and everything was manic on the farm but we were compelled to do something to help him reach his target. We decided on a charity horse ride, walk and cycle in to Dursley town Centre collecting money as we went along.
The event grew with such momentum it was fantastic. We managed to get the local papers and radio stations all involved. Everyone who knew Cameron helped out with the preparations. It brought out the real community spirit in people.
Local shops donated fantastic raffle prizes, people were baking cakes and others were out selling raffle tickets in their hundreds. It was incredible that our charity walk had brought out the very best in people with them all wanting to do their bit to help.
On the 7th February lead by our own police escort Team Newbrook, Cameron, friends and family made our way from our farm in to Dursley gathering outside of Sainsbury’s supermarket. As we approached the town Centre the streets were lined with people who had all turned out to watch us passing by being led by Cameron himself on a quad bike.
It was a fantastic day with so many of the community coming out to meet us all and of course to say hello to some of our Newbrook Neddie’s.
When all the collection buckets were gathered in along with all the money from the raffle tickets and the cakes sales Cameron had totally smashed his £3k target.
Cameron sadly passed away peacefully on the 6th November.
Team Newbrook were lucky enough to have met this incredibly brave young man, & we're extremely proud to call him our friend. He lived the last few months of his life without a moan or a complaint doing as much as he could with the time he had left. He was surrounded by amazing friends and family who were there for him all the way.
He was an incredibly humble, brave and a genuinely lovely human being. There are lots of ways Team Newbrook will personally remember Cam. Whether it's our daily donut deliveries from him and the boy's or us getting him, his family and friends on the neddie’s.
The one that will stick in our heart's forever is his beaming smile on his charity walk to Dursley.
If knowing Cameron taught us anything it is that life can be so fragile and that above anything else we should all live our lives to the full and seize every opportunity that comes our way, but most importantly do it with a smile on our faces.
Through other fundraising events/raffles/cake sales he went on to raise over £7k and left an incredible legacy. He truly was an Inspirational young man who we were privileged to have met.
Bailey is a incredible young lady 👧 who is profoundly deaf and has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, meaning it affects her whole body causing limited movement 😔
This affects every aspect of her life for example she cannot stand or walk independently
Her family are just the very most incredible kind of people there are ❤ and they make sure Bailey lives life to the fullest & don't let her disabilities define who she is 😃
Her family over the years have raised lots of money themselves to ensure Bailey has the best equipment available to her to make Bailey's life as independent & pain free as possible
Her Nan even did a sponsored sky dive ✈ to raise money towards Bailey's previous equipment 😮
But as Bailey gets older & grows bigger she needs new equipment to help both her & her family manage
The family attended a mobility roadshow & at the show they came across a new type of powered wheelchair that will enable her to stand 😃
Having the ability for her to do this will enable her to have much more access to various activities, and not miss out on anything that we all take for granted
Not to mention she is able to stand using this wheelchair which will give her muscles time to stretch which is extremely beneficial for her 🙌
Another brilliant feature is that this wheelchair also enables Bailey to lie down for helping with changing, and also for her to relax
The chair has many, many more adjustments to change her posture, reducing the worry of pressure sores, and most of all it's very comfortable for her!
As we said before lots of these are basic functions that we take for granted everyday of our lives, but to Bailey & her family it's life changing technology 👍 they never could have dreamt of 😃
As you imagine this amazing chair comes at an incredible cost, just over a whopping £22k 😱
Bailey also requires other equipment as she grows & all of which the family have to contribute towards 😔
Bailey requires around the clock care & is surrounded by the most loving family ❤ we have ever had the privilege to meet
Their upbeat positive attitude is remarkable & their total ethos about ensuring Bailey gets to experience all the same things we do & isn't held back by her disabilities is inspirational ❤😃
It would incredible for not only Bailey but her entire family if her having this life changing chair could become a reality sooner rather than later 👍
So along with her families own fundraising activities Team Newbrook wanted to do our bit to help make this a reality
So we launched Bailey's wheelz 😃
We held a series of fundraising events & activities to help the family reach their £22k target 😃👍, We had a raffle, an online photo competetion as well as other fundraising activies. Bailey's Nan even did a sponsored wing walk!!
With everyones combined fundraising & seriously generous donations by local buisness man Barry Walker, The Dursley Lion's Club & the Gyde Trust we smashed our target 🎯 meaning Bailey's New Wheelz are on order
We are truly overwhelmed by everyone's generosity & support ❤ & we cannot wait to see & share with you 📷 the gorgeous Bailey stood up proud in her new Wheelz 👧
Once again we thank all of you out there, as it's you guys that have made this happen ❤
🌟 ❤Thank you to all of you who donated, entered our photo 📷 competition, bought raffle tickets 🎫, sponsored the lovely Tracy ✈, shared our post's 📲 you guy's are epic ❤ 🌟
Thank you to Stuart & everyone else at the Gazette 📰 who backed us all the way ❤ 🌟
And last & certainly no means least to the incredible Barry Walker, The Dursley Lion's Club & the Gyde Trust whom without this dream would not have come true
Team Newbrook since our opening have been proudly invited and attended lots of local schools, residential care homes, community fetes and festivals.
For us this is something we think is essential as we want to make horses available to everyone, and the best way to do that is getting out in to the community and supporting those around us.
By taking part in these kind of events not only can we help spread the word about the work we are trying to do but also help raise valuable funds for goods causes and charities in the local community.
If you would like Team Newbrook to pay you a visit please get in touch & we will do our
very best to make it happen!
